Worcester Range

WORCESTER Bosch 8 years warranty on all CDI Compact, CDI Classic SI, RI & Junior range with the addition of the Worcester Greenstar System Filter.

Greenstar CDi Classic combi boilers

Thanks to our two-way communication process with you, the installer, we have been able to introduce a number of new improvements to our CDi combi boiler, which is an established part of our award-winning Greenstar gas boiler range.

Increased domestic hot water output

We have increased the maximum domestic hot water output rates across a number of outputs to enable your customers to benefit from increased comfort within the home.

The 27kW, 30kW and 37kW output boilers within the CDi range will be upgraded to 29kW, 34kW and 38kW in a move which substantially improves performance.

Worcester launches revolutionary new CDI COMPACT combi boiler

The new gas-fired Greenstar CDi Compact is one of the smallest boilers on the market - combining reduced dimensions with high performance, outstanding efficiency, useful features and low emissions, so you don’t have to compromise on any aspect.

Opening up the installation possibilities, Worcester’s Greenstar CDi Compact gives homeowners the flexibility to use their available space wisely – be it freeing up extra room in a small kitchen or making the most of a cloakroom or utility room.

The Greenstar CDi Compact incorporates the innovation, quality and reliability you’d expect from a company celebrating 50 years of expertise.

Featuring a revolutionary ultra-compact heat exchanger, manufactured using cutting-edge technology adopted from the aerospace industry and the military, and using less than 1W of electricity when in standby mode, the efficiency benefits soon mount up.

It’s easy to use too. A clear display shows the heating and hot water temperature settings selected whilst an optional service reminder means you will never forget to call in the experts, recommended each year, to help keep your boiler in tip top condition and working at its best.

“Its smaller dimensions give a broader scope for where it can be fitted yet, by including the latest technology, it is still able to efficiently meeting a high demand for heating and hot water.”

This new addition expands the company’s already well-established Greenstar range, which scooped an impressive 23 Which? Best Buy accreditations for its gas-fired models earlier in the year, positioning Worcester at the top of the polls.

For even greater peace of mind, Worcester’s Greenstar CDi, Si and Ri gas-fired boilers boilers bought before the end of December 2014 with come with a fantastic 7 years parts and labour warranty or 8 years with a Greenstar Filter.

Available in outputs of 28kW, 32kW and 36kW, the Greenstar CDi Compact has dimensions of just 690mm x 390mm x 280mm, making it ideal for homes with limited space.

Types of Boilers

Typical savings & the types of central heating systems

How much could you save?

This will depend on how old and inefficient your existing boiler is.

Typical annual saving based on your present boiler rating

G ( < 70%)   £300 plus
F (70–74%)   £200 plus
E (74–78%)   £150 plus
D (78–82%)   £105 plus

These are estimated figures based on installing a new A-rated condensing boiler in a semi-detached home with three bedrooms.

Modern boilers are more efficient for several reasons, but their main advantage is that they are all condensing boilers. All well-maintained boilers burn their fuel very efficiently, but they inevitably lose some heat in the hot gases that escape up the flue. A condensing boiler has a bigger heat exchanger, so it recovers more heat, sends cooler gases up the flue and is more efficient.

Installing a new boiler

If it is time to change your boiler, then the first thing is to decide what type of boiler you need.

Find out more information on the Worcester Bosch website by clicking the links below:

Which type of boiler do I need?

What is a condensing boiler?

What is a combi boiler?

What is a regular boiler?

What is a system boiler?

The right boiler

Most old gas boilers are regular boilers - they have a separate hot water cylinder to store hot water, rather than providing it directly from the boiler. When you replace your boiler you have a choice of buying a new regular boiler, and keeping your hot water cylinder, or buying a combi boiler that doesn't need a cylinder.

A regular boiler is actually more efficient than a combi at producing hot water in the first place, but then some heat is lost from the hot water cylinder, so a combi may be more efficient overall. The best option for you will depend on a number of factors:

How much hot water do you use?

A large family using lots of hot water could be better off with a regular boiler – a smaller household using less may be better off with a combi.

Are you short of space?

A combi boiler doesn’t need a hot water cylinder, and so needs less space.

Firstly, consider which type of boiler you have or may need from the following three types:-

1. Conventional
2. Combination (Combi)
3. System

Whether you're on a low budget or require a high end installation, then we have some of the best offers available anywhere.

New finance options available

Buying a new boiler can be a big investment for any household and you may not always have the funds at your fingertips. It is because of this that we have put together a competitive finance solution designed to help you get the benefit of a more efficient heating system now and spread the cost over a period of time to suit your budget.

As a Worcester Accredited Installer, we can handle the entire process, installation and finance.

Boiler Servicing

Regular servicing is an important part of maintaining tip top condition of your boiler and it's very important to have an annual service, not only for safety reasons but also to prevent future breakdowns when you least expect them.

Some of the reasons / symptoms that might require your boiler to be serviced.

  • To maintain your manufacture warranty agreement.
  • Hot water has limited flow or not as hot as it should be.
  • Boiler overheating or needs refilling frequently.
  • Fan makes a noise.
  • Water pressure keeps dropping.
  • Pump noisy.
  • Constantly resetting the boiler.
  • Stains on or near the appliance - On older boilers
  • Pilot light keeps going out - On older boilers
  • Irregular or yellow flame.

This is an outline of the service procedures we do.

1. Every service we undertake has a visual check to comply to building, electrical and gas safe regulations.

2. We then do a pre-service check where we fire the boiler up, check basic operations and identify faults if any.

3. All main components will be checked, must be clean and free from damage. The main components we check are burners, injectors, heat exchangers, condensing syphon and fan. Also as part of our routine check we inspect pipework and electrical connections.

4. We use our flue gas analyser to check the gas valve and make sure we have complete combustion.

5. Our final check is to analyse the boiler with our flue gas analyser to make sure it is running to manufactures specification.

6. Should we find a fault with any of our checks then we will advice you if there are any additional costs for the repair.

7. Finally we will issue a benchmark Gas safety certficate and a print out from our analyser to confirm the readings.

reads Our standard service charge for a condensing boiler is £85 including VAT, excluding any parts should they be required. Older non-condensing boilers are subject to a higher service charge and before a price can be agreed we would need to know the make, model, age, and any existing problems prior to booking.

Winter freeze

Freezing condensing pipe (How to keep your boiler operating)

Scientists have said that potentially we could be in for the coldest winter for nearly a century. This fact sheet will help you identify what to do and how to prevent freezing should these very low temperatures be reached.

We would like to advice you what you can do to prevent your Worcester Boiler condensate pipe from freezing and how you can protect your home internal hot and cold water supply pipework from freezing. How can I tell if the boiler’s condense trap/discharge pipe has frozen?

Step 1

  • It’s possible that your boiler’s condense trap / discharge pipe has frozen if all 3 of these statements are correct.
  • The outside temperature is or has been below freezing
  • Your boiler is displaying either an EA fault code, a D5 code or is displaying a flashing blue light (for 26CDi boilers you may see a flashing red light instead)
  • Your boiler is a Greenstar gas boiler, or a 26 CDi

Step 2

If all 3 statements are true, you should now try to reset your boiler. This can be done by holding in the ‘reset’ button (this can be found on the boiler control panel) for 10 seconds. Once you have released the button you should wait 2 to 3 minutes to see if the boiler refi res.

Step 3

If the boiler does not re-fire and it is emitting a gurgling sound, then it is almost certain that your condense is frozen. If you cannot hear a gurgling noise you should still proceed to check your condense pipe.

Step 4

The condensate pipe is a plastic pipe (black, white or grey), coming from the bottom of your boiler. If this pipe is less than 32mm in diameter and runs outside of the property or through a non-heated area then it should be fully insulated with waterproof lagging. If it is not fully lagged and the 3 criteria (in step 1 above) apply then it is likely that it is frozen and needs to be thawed.

How can the condensate pipe be thawed?

You should exercise extreme caution at all times when attempting to identify and thaw a condensate pipe.

  • You should only attempt to thaw a condense pipe that is at ground level and which is easily accessible to you. Under no circumstances should you attempt to thaw a condense pipe which is at height, without the assistance of a professionally trained engineer.
  • A hot water bottle or heat wrap (like the ones that can be used to ease muscle discomfort) would be a suitable and safe way of thawing the condense pipe. Hold the hot water bottle or warmed heat wrap around the condensate pipe to thaw it.
  • Once thawed, the boiler must be reset. This can be done by holding the reset button in for 10 seconds and then waiting 2 to 3 minutes for the boiler to refire.
  • If you are uncertain of what to do or require particular assistance then you could invite a neighbour/friend or family member to assist you. The person assisting you can, if required, contact our Technical Support Team (0330 123 3366)

Radiators

Compact Convector Radiator

We supply the compact convector radiator which is one of the most energy efficient designs on the market. It only requires a small amount of water to function; it heats up very quickly and is easy to control. The large convector plate within the design means that heat is expelled across a greater surface area, distributing heat more effectively around the room. With straight lines and quality finishing, the Compact is a sleek asset to both traditional and contemporary interiors. The radiator is hardwearing because of its smooth and solid scratch resistant coating, and easy to clean.

Every radiator we supply is guaranteed for ten years from the date of installation against defects caused by faulty materials or manufacture. We will replace the defective product with a similar or technically corresponding convector subject to the terms and conditions below.

The guarantee will not cover damages that are due to faulty storage and handling after delivery, nor damages that are due to faulty use of the convector, such as inside and outside rust, use of corrosive substances, too high pressure or damage due to freezing.

This guarantee does not cover costs incurred for change of product, production loss, loss of profit or any other indirect costs.

We believe that training is everything, whether it's on the job training, at the manufacturers or in the classroom, you're never to old to learn.

Here at Midland Central Heating we take great pride in producing a quality job, that's why twice yearly we attend manufacturers training courses to learn about their new products and regularly hold sessions in our own training facility where we keep up to date with the latest legislations and Gas Safe regulations.

We are also able to help students build their Gas portfolios with practical and written evidence work before they take their ACS. This is something not many companies can do because they are not geared up. This doesn't mean you will get a trainee on your job, no no, far from it. In fact we EMPLOY our Gas Engineers; they’re not sub-contractors, like most other outfits out there working on your job, ours are definitely some of the very best and we are proud of that fact.

Gas Safety

How to make sure your home is Gas Safe

Gas Safety Week: Fighting for a Gas Safe nation We work alongside Gas Safe and are proud to support Gas Safety Week. Gas Safety Week is an annual safety week to raise awareness of Gas Safety and the importance of taking care of your gas appliances. It is coordinated by Gas Safe Register, the official list of gas engineers who are legally allowed to work on gas. Badly fitted and poorly serviced gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning. Every year thousands of people across the UK are diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning. It is a highly poisonous gas. You can’t see it, taste it or smell it, but it can kill quickly with no warning. By taking care of your gas appliances properly you are taking care of your home and your loved ones. Follow these few simple checks to keep you and your family safe.

  • Check your gas appliances every year. Gas appliances should be safety checked once a year and serviced regularly by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Tenants – make sure your landlord arranges this. Set a reminder so you don’t forget at www.staygassafe.co.uk.
  • Check your engineer is Gas Safe registered. You can find and check an engineer at www. GasSafeRegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500.
  • Check your engineer’s Gas Safe Register ID card. Make sure they are qualified for the work you need doing. You can find this information on the back of the card.
  • Check for warning signs your appliances aren’t working correctly e.g. lazy yellow or orange flames instead of crisp blue ones, black marks on or around the appliance and too much condensation in the room.
  • Know the six signs of carbon monoxide poisoning – headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse and loss of consciousness.
  • Have an audible carbon monoxide alarm. This will alert you if there is carbon monoxide in your home.

For gas safety advice or to find and check an engineer visit the Gas Safe Register website at www.GasSafeRegister.co.uk. Alternatively call the free helpline on 0800 408 5500.
